10 Important Factors to Consider when Reviewing your ISP
A lot can happen in a year or two, and Internet Service Providers have been in the thick of things as far as change is concerned. With the rapid advances in technology, it can pay to compare your service to others that are available before re-signing a contract with your present provider. Below are some tips to keep in mind when it is time to review and rate your service. If you aren't satisfied with your current ISP there are many others willing to compete for your patronage.
- Ookla.net – Visit www.ookla.net to see how your service stacks up to other services in terms of quality, value and speed.
- Cost – During the term of your contract other companies may have come out with a better plan than yours, and your own provider may have changed as well, so ask questions and don't be afraid to negotiate.
- Customer Service – Has customer service been friendly, prompt and genuinely helpful? If you receive multiple services from a single provider are you able to deal with issues with a single call?
- Reliability – Every system will have glitches, but how much time did you lose to interrupted service, and would that loss have been likely with another provider?
- Ease of Use – Have you been satisfied with the way your provider brings you your service and makes that service easy to use?
- Billing – Factors to consider here include clarity, convenience and bundling options. If you feel like you are being nickel-and-dimed to death, it may be time to look for a new provider.
- Tech Support – Think about the availability and quality of your tech support; was support available at all times or only during limited hours, and were your problems solved or merely kicked-along?
- The Competition – It can pay to stay up-to-date on the competition; you may be satisfied with your current service, but you might still find better service, and for a lower price.
- Perks? - If you are considering a change in your ISP, find out what special deals or discounts might be available from your current provider before you burn any bridges.
- Overall Satisfaction – The customer needs to decide whether-or-not the provider is giving good value and a good experience; individual factors are prioritized by the user and fused to give a composite overview. A provider may not be the fastest but could have other features that count more for any given user. The consumer is the final arbiter.
You may very well end up with the same provider, but you want to make sure the ISP is giving you the best possible deal, so do the research now and avoid problems later.
